Outer Coast is in a pivotal moment in our progress toward opening a two-year liberal arts college and granting associate degrees to our students. We hope you’ll join us.
We are collaborating with the administrators of the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) and at the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) in this process, and we plan to welcome our first cohort of degree-seeking college students next year (August 2024).
The Undergraduate Program is an opportunity for students to start college in an engaged, rigorous, small community setting among a cohort of diverse peers. The 2024-2025 academic year will be the first year of a two-year postsecondary program for high school graduates. Students will enroll in a full set of college-level courses that interweave Indigenous and European ways of knowing led by dynamic faculty members; engage in long-term, committed service relationships with local community organizations and mentors; and self-govern the Outer Coast community through Student Body meetings, committee work, and collaborations with staffulty and community members. Students will live, learn, and work on the Sheldon Jackson / Sitka Fine Arts Campus.
We expect our collaboration with UAS and NWCCU to be finalized in December 2023.
Cost of Attendance
As with all Outer Coast programs, admissions for the Outer Coast 2024 undergraduate cohort will be need blind, and the program will offer a means-based cost of attendance model. Outer Coast will meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, ensuring that cost will not be a barrier to attendance.
Eligibility
High school seniors and graduates / GED holders who have not yet completed a postsecondary degree are eligible for the Outer Coast Undergraduate Program.
Credits and Degree
Students will earn up to 30 college credits during the 2024-2025 year and will be on a pathway to earn an associate degree.
Dates
Students who enroll in fall 2024 will complete the two-year program in spring 2026.
The 2024-2025 academic year will have three terms, with breaks in between each term.
